High energy upbeat funk infused pop, bringing summer vibes all year around.
"We are super passionate about music which comes across in our songwriting, our lyrics have deep meanings about our current society and the hardships people face. We’re not afraid to tell our story to the world and believe spreading our joyful vibrant music connects with audiences across the globe as we speak about subjects that everybody can relate to.” - The Lulas
"The Lulas are everything i want to see and hear in a band. A slick live show and even slicker songwriting." - Jamie "Jampottt" Donnelly - Producer
The Lulas are a four piece funk infused pop band based in Middlesbrough UK. They formed in October 2018 but didn’t perform their first gig until the end of February 2019 leaving them time to focus on writing and constructing their original music.
The time taken crafting their material really shows in their performances. The first ever gig the Lulas played was at a Battle of the Bands, which resulted in them advancing to the next round and ultimately winning the final. This led to high praise from everybody around their local area. By June The Lulas were featured as Richer unsigned artist of the week with their debut single 'Pink Socks' being chosen to be played in all 53 Richer Sounds stores.
The Lulas’ unique sound has been compared to the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers with a mix of Amy Winehouse. After performing festivals in and around their hometown as well as working alongside some great promoters, they have secured a gig supporting the reggae pop band, Kioko. Late 2019 The Lulas were selected to perform on the Songs from northern Britain event hosted by Vic Galloway from BBC Radio 6 and BBC Radio Scotland.
Their upbeat catchy sound really gets the crowd going, if you see beach balls and an inflatable pink flamingo being bounced around in the audience and everyone enjoying the summer vibes, then it's more than likely that you have managed to find your way into a Lulas gig.

Marina Gears is the vocalist and lyricist, it's not hard to tell that she has been singing from a young age, considering what she has achieved. Her background includes working for TFM radio, featuring on SkyTV Sing Ultimate Acapella and has even performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Her dance moves are often compared to that of Phoebe Buffay from Friends, whether that's a good thing or not, it sure is fun to watch and is a real crowd-pleaser.
Michael Grant is the guitarist and songwriter, he has studied guitar from the age of 16 listening to a mix of blues and rock music. B.B King, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix are just some of his favourites. These influences are noticeable in his playing and songwriting from the rhythmic guitar fills of Jimi Hendrix to the subtle warm melody lines of B.B King. Michael has previously supported some world class musicians and top guitarists in his career such as South African blues performer, Dan Patlansky and blues rocker Laurence Jones.
Adam Crook is the drummer and has played alongside Michael in a semi-professional blues band for three years. Together they gigged all around the UK both supporting some notable big acts. Adam has been performing on stage since the young age of 15 and has had a lot of success in his previous bands. During all his years of playing Adam has picked up techniques from all genres of music most notably funk music, he uses these well rehearsed skills to help craft and shape The Lulas songs, giving them structure and a catchy backbeat that can be heard throughout.
David Crook is the bass player and twin brother to drummer Adam Crook, as you can see music runs in the family with David playing instruments from a young age. David is originally a guitar player but turned his hand to bass to fit in with the band’s needs. This helped him discover a whole new passion, which is evident when he performs on stage with his happy, high energy. This is not the only musical skills David has, he is also a great recording engineer who can work his way around Pro Tools like lightning. What’s more, he used this great knowledge to his advantage by recording, mixing and mastering five tracks for The Lulas.
